Revista Catalana de Museologia

Editorial

The 12th issue of “Mnemòsine,” the Catalan museology magazine, comes out while museum professionals keep seeking to recover our pace, what with all the limitations due to the covid-19 pandemic. From AMC, despite the pandemic, we were able to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our association in an event that allowed us to meet in person at the History Museum of Catalonia. We enjoyed the interventions of the authors of the book to commemorate the occasion, Daniel Solé and F. Xavier Menéndez, and the speeches of the presidents of the association throughout these 25 years.

We should also celebrate the publication of the fourth Museology Handbook by AMC, “Strategic Planning of Museums and Heritage Centers,” which has been very well received in various museums in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and Andorra.

Although now, in early 2022, we still found ourselves in a pandemic situation, museums have a very interesting and diverse program, in a context of approved budgets that we hope will bring some relief to chronically poorly equipped teams that nonetheless are always ready to start projects and face challenges.

Of all goals, in addition to the day-to-day challenges, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda are now priorities for museums. From the commitment of heritage facilities to society, museologists are called to act decisively to achieve the goals of this ambitious agenda in order to reach 2030 with the certainty of having done everything in our power to help create a fairer and more sustainable future.

Since its launch in 2004, “Mnemòsine” has been a fundamental tool to overcome current and future challenges, and to push our discipline forward. It is a space where museology professionals can share and discuss reflections, experiences and current events in museums. Moreover, the recent incorporation of articles by students of the master's degrees in museology taught at Catalan universities provides the voice of a generation that cannot be expressed normally from museums, as they encounter worrying difficulties to find their place in such institutions.

From the Board of the AMC, we want to thank the contribution of all the people who feed this magazine with their work. We want to thank the Editorial Board, which promotes the magazine. And we want to thank the readers, who help to improve the reality of our professional sector and our museums simply by enjoying the contents of the magazine. Thank you all very much!
