This year the Associació de Museòlegs de Catalunya celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary.

I have the opportunity to chair this association in such an important date, but I'm only a single piece in the whole machinery that made it possible for this association to get as far as it has, and to keep going on.

Several people have been at the forefront of the association, and many more have been part of its board.

I convey my gratitude to all of them for their good work and for having made it possible to reach today.

The association is committed to each and every single museum professional, committed to their work, and commitment to Catalonia. Because, if today’s museological institutions work, it is largely due to the dedication of all their invested staff.

The Mnemòsine magazine was born sixteen years ago as a joint initiative of the Associació de Museòlegs de Catalunya (at the time led by Carles Marfà) and the History Museum of Catalonia (then directed by Jaume Sobrequés i Callicó).

Its intention was to fill the existing gap of periodic publications specialized in museology and museography in Catalonia. To achieve this goal we entrusted our endeavor to the mythological Greek gods, specifically to Mnemosyne (in ancient Greek: Μνημοσύνη Mnēmosýnē, from μνήμη mnếmē, “memory”), daughter of Gaia and Uranus.

And our objective has certainly been achieved. Adapting to new digital formats, the magazine is a showcase for the association. It brings together the thoughts, research and updates of the museology world.

We also got here thanks to a team of partners and associates who altruistically have dedicated their time and knowledge to leading this publication from its editorial board. I thank all these collaborators for their effort and dedication.

The magazine has been engaged in a process of evolution throughout the years. It adapted to new needs. Changes have taken place on a solid foundation that has allowed it to face the future with optimism.

Now our new challenge is to reach our fiftieth anniversary, and we will continue to have first level human capital to ensure it happens. Because, as I said before, this sector nourishes from professionals with a strong commitment to museums and our territory. This fact guarantees that we will walk for twenty-five more years.

Congratulations to everyone!
